What a ride! Once again this semester, we used orientation week to introduce ourselves and the work of our student initiative across various degree programs and at events. In doing so, we were not only looking for new potential stem cell donors, but also for new Campus Heroes to strengthen our team.
Our week began on Tuesday with the local project breakfast hosted by the Medical Student Council, where the medicine first-years were provided not only with treats, but also with information about our favorite topics. In the afternoon, we registered and informed everyone interested at the AStA’s Market of Possibilities.
The law students were also served information about blood cancer and stem cell donation by us at their first-year breakfast on Wednesday. We hope all the first-years enjoyed it and were left wanting more! Afterwards, things got sporty at the medical students’ city rally, to which we were able to contribute a small obstacle course game. The day ended with the welcome event for the Educational Science Student Council, to which we brought registration kits and a game instead of traditional Schultüten (school cones).
On Thursday, as part of their information event, the pharmacy students received the full dose of knowledge about our work.
On Friday, our Campus Heroes headed back to the University Medicine campus for the Medical Student Council’s lab coat fitting, as well as the breakfast cinema hosted by the Nursing Science Student Council—because anyone who wears a lab coat or scrubs should also be registered as a potential stem cell donor and be informed about the cause.
The clear highlight of this year’s orientation week was the third edition of the Rave Against Blood Cancer on Saturday evening at Club 9. If you would like to read more about that night, you can do so in the separate post on our website.
We look back on orientation week with great pride: not only did we register 56 new potential stem cell donors, but we were also able to inspire many students to get involved with our work. On Tuesday evening, the Lerncafé was packed as we traditionally kicked off the lecture period with our semester launch meeting over pizza and snacks. We were thrilled to welcome more than 25 new faces that evening and to register 4 additional people. The numbers show that our commitment is making an impact and that we are successfully bringing the fight against blood cancer to campus. From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank everyone who cooperated with and supported us during this week.
