Under the motto “Give Christmas the Chance to Save a Life”, an incredible 96 students registered as stem cell donors this year, showing that the true spirit of Christmas lies in giving, compassion, and helping others. Every single registration represents hope – and could one day mean a second chance at life for someone affected by blood cancer. During the midday hours, the Beitzplatz cafeteria was filled with a special sense of warmth and togetherness. Soft Christmas music, the smell of freshly baked cookies, and small gifts created a festive atmosphere that invited students to pause between lectures and daily routines. Many took the time to learn more about stem cell donation, ask questions, and make a conscious decision to help. This campaign made it clear what Christmas is truly about: standing together, taking responsibility, and sharing hope. The 96 new stem cell donors have shown that even a small step can make a huge difference – and may be…

During Freshers’ Week 2025, the Campus Heroes were present at many locations – on campus, in lecture halls, and at events around the city. Our goal was to get to know new students, raise awareness of our work, and provide easy access to information about stem cell donation. We took part in several local project breakfasts, presentations across different study programs, the AStA’s Markt der Möglichkeiten, and the Medical Students’ Council city rally. Supported by stickers, flyers, new postcards, as well as our new roll-up banner and beach flag, we were highly visible and easy to approach. A key part of all activities was the opportunity to register as a stem cell donor. Over the course of the week, we were able to register 62 new stem cell donors. Freshers’ Week once again showed how much can be achieved through presence, personal conversations, and teamwork. We thank all freshers for their interest and look forward to seeing you…

On Saturday, July 5, 2025, the time had come – Rave Against Blood Cancer took place in Club 9. With DJ Hoang, Jeanska B2B with Tiziano, and V.L.S. on the lineup, the night delivered a wide range of sounds, covering everything from 2000s / 2010s to Hard Trance, Bounce, and Hard Techno. The DJs sent a strong message by playing for free and donating their fees to support the fight against blood cancer. Away from the dancefloor, guests had the opportunity to register as stem cell donors or enjoy a special highlight of the night: the Bone Marrow Shot. Thanks to Club 9, DJ Hoang, Jeanska, Tiziano, and V.L.S., and everyone who brought the night to life. In total, we were able to raise an incredible €450 in donations for our mission. The matchday was not only a sporting success for Greifswalder FC and the Campus Heroes, but also a strong sign of solidarity. As part of a joint donor registration drive, former team captain Tom Weilandt was supported, as he is currently searching for a suitable stem cell donor. A total of 160 people registered with DKMS as potential stem cell donors on the day. Every new registration increases the chance of finding a matching donor for Tom – or for another person affected by blood cancer. The strong turnout reflects the close connection within the club community and beyond. While VfL Bochum 1848 already held a registration drive for Tom Weilandt last week, Hansa Rostock will host a similar campaign next weekend. The day was also successful on the pitch: Greifswalder FC secured a convincing 4–0 home victory against Hallescher FC. Together, we are sending a clear message – for Tom Weilandt, for solidarity, and in the fight against blood…

During our Campus4Life registration drive at Lohmeyerplatz and in the Beitzplatz cafeteria, we were able to recruit 78 new stem cell donors. The campaign took place in bright sunshine as part of the University Information Days and was held in light of World Blood Cancer Day, which is observed annually on May 28 to raise awareness in the fight against blood cancer. Many students and cafeteria visitors took the opportunity to learn about stem cell donation before their lunch break or while enjoying the sunshine after eating, and registered directly on site. By registering, the new donors are now available for worldwide matching with patients suffering from blood cancer, sending a strong message of solidarity and hope. 🫶🩸 Photo courtesy of Kilian Köthe (University Communications, University of Greifswald)

With our first school outreach, the Campus Heroes visited Humboldt Gymnasium Greifswald. Together with other dedicated initiatives, we were able to offer students a diverse and hands-on insight into various topics related to health, prevention, and civic engagement. Alongside the LandRetter, AG EHmed, AG Organ Donation, and the Blood Donation team – who initiated the event – we had the opportunity to shape the day together. As part of our contribution, we gave a presentation on stem cell registration, explaining how a potential donation works. A special focus was placed on personal exchange: our speaker shared her own experience as a stem cell donor, giving the students an honest and impactful first-hand insight into the process. To conclude, the newly gained knowledge was tested in a quiz. Students aged 17 and older were also given the opportunity to register directly as stem cell donors. Twenty-one students took advantage of this opportunity. Their registrations will be activated in the registry once they turn 18. The school outreach demonstrated…

In the run-up to Christmas, 41 students gave a truly special gift: by registering as potential stem cell donors, they offered new hope to people who urgently depend on a life-saving stem cell donation. On Nikolaus Day, another registration drive took place in the campus cafeteria on Loefflerstraße – this time in a festive, Christmas-themed atmosphere. Hot punch, small surprises and seasonal decorations created a welcoming setting that encouraged many students to stop by, learn more about stemm cell donation and to register as potential donors. Every new registration increases the chances of finding a suitable donor for people suffering from blood cancer. The campaign impressively demonstrated how commitment and solidarity during the Christmas season can turn into real, life-saving support.

Freshers’ Week was a great success for the Campus Heroes! As an initiative dedicated to raising awareness about stem cell donation, we were highly visible on campus and beyond throughout the week. Our goal was to inform first-year students, raise awareness, and motivate them to register as stem cell donors. Our achievements at a glance Our activities during the week We kicked things off with several Freshers’ Breakfasts across different fields of study, including Medicine, Teacher Education, Dentistry, Psychology, and Nursing Sciences. In a relaxed atmosphere, we had many great conversations with students, answered questions about stem cell donation, and enabled on-the-spot registrations. Our work was supported by informative materials, a prize wheel, cookies, and our eye-catching Campus Heroes stand. At the Market der Möglichkeiten in the Beitz-Mensa, we were present for several hours and reached numerous interested students. We also introduced our initiative at student council presentations, for example in Law, and raised…
