The matchday was not only a sporting success for Greifswalder FC and the Campus Heroes, but also a strong sign of solidarity. As part of a joint donor registration drive, former team captain Tom Weilandt was supported, as he is currently searching for a suitable stem cell donor.
A total of 160 people registered with DKMS as potential stem cell donors on the day. Every new registration increases the chance of finding a matching donor for Tom – or for another person affected by blood cancer. The strong turnout reflects the close connection within the club community and beyond. While VfL Bochum 1848 already held a registration drive for Tom Weilandt last week, Hansa Rostock will host a similar campaign next weekend.
The day was also successful on the pitch: Greifswalder FC secured a convincing 4–0 home victory against Hallescher FC.
Together, we are sending a clear message – for Tom Weilandt, for solidarity, and in the fight against blood cancer.
